About

ATX Writers is a workshop and community of fiction writers based in Austin, Texas intent on building short stories that matter.

About THE WORKSHOP

Over six weeks, six select writers participate in unconventional creative exercises, submit a short story to the group and engage in roundtable feedback discussions. The only workshop rule is a strict 7,000 word limit per story submission.

Weeks one through three

These meetings are dedicated to writing exercises, readings and discussions designed to challenge the typical writing routine. Synthesized from numerous workshops and studies on creativity, these first meetings intend to elicit surprising narrative results and lead participants to a working first draft of a new story.

Weeks four through six

The final weeks consist of formal roundtable workshops. Each member submits a short story for group discussion, then receives verbal + written feedback from all workshop participants. It can be a story generated from our exercises, or another that you’d like to share.

After each six-week session, participants can choose to publish their final stories in the ATX Writers Journal (page under construction).

GOAL

It is two-fold. Build a local support system for emerging and seasoned writers. Excavate fresh ideas to construct strong stories.

PRICE

$175, due by the first meeting. If that’s not possible, we can work something out—price should not be a barrier to participation. Please contact atxwriters@gmail.com for specific payment information.
